Laughter from the Heart (LftH) is the title of fun-learning sessions developed to effectively communicate to adults information that will help them: 1) know themselves better, 2) live stress free and happier lives, 3) achieve a measure of peace and harmony in their homes and workplace, 4) be more creative and productive at work, 5) generate positive attitudes and 6) be more appreciative of their blessings.

These sessions were designed to be an enjoyable experience. It teaches individuals how to be happy no matter what circumstance they are in. Thus, these sessions have been aptly dubbed as "happyshops" instead of "workshops".

LftH happyshops utilize tried and tested theater and entertainment techniques to bring out the latent qualities of the "creative child" and "nurturing parent" in each individual. It presents information to help participants know what goes on in their minds and understand how it affects our emotions and reactions. Moreover, it shows the participants what to do to control their reactions so as to generate peace and joy for themselves and those they are in contact with. Even though the sessions dwell on serious topics, the light treatment and humor that pervade in its presentations make the sessions a most pleasant experience. These happyshops incorporate the following activities:

  • Talks on various subjects by Caloy Atayde, the keynote speaker
  • Activities by 2 professional clown actors
  • Demonstrations using props
  • Physical and mental exercises
  • AVP presentations
  • Interactive song and dance
  • Storytelling & mime act presentations
  • Games
  • Role playing
  • Drawing competition
  • Question and answer sessions
  • Group discussions
  • Personal evaluation and planning exercises

One of the features of the happyshop is that it provides the participants the opportunity to know how to think out of the box. It also allows them to freely express their thoughts on how to improve the quality of their life and work without fear of ridicule or retribution. Another feature of the program is the methodology used to impart the lessons and inspire the participants to be proactive. This method is called the Student Centered Learning Method. This is a method used by top graduate schools in highly advanced countries. It is a method that encourages the participants to dig deep into what they know on the subjects discussed and be more open to new information since they are asked to be teachers to others attending the happyshop. Audio video presentations, personal sharing of experiences and interactive discussions are the core activities of this methodology.

HISTORY OF LAUGHTER FROM THE HEART HAPPYSHOPS

Laughter from the HeartThe concept of Laughter from the Heart was first developed in 1999 when the late Brother Andrew Gonzalez, then Secretary of the Department of Education, commissioned Values Media, Inc. (VMI) to develop a workshop to help school heads and key school personnel provide a more conducive environment for learning and growth. This session, or what is now known as happyshop, was first conducted in Baguio City for school superintendents, district supervisors and principals from all over the country belonging to both the private and public schools. Thereafter, the school superintendents asked VMI to give this happyshop to their district supervisors, principals and key school personnel that numbered more than 5,000.

In 2008, after having given the happyshop to the personnel of a call center, Caloy Atayde realized that the happyshop was the answer to many of the concerns of people particularly those who are stressed, sad, confused, hurt, angry and feeling low and wish to experience the joy of living. This is so since the happyshop addresses emotional problems and focuses on how to live a happier life. Since then, Values Media, Inc. has been presenting these happyshops to numerous organizations and the response has been very encouraging.

In the LftH happyshops participants get to laugh, sing, love, dance and enjoy themselves as if there is no tomorrow. At the end of the session, the participants are inspired and better equipped to live happier and more productive lives.

Values Media, Inc. is presently offering happyshops that address various human development requirements and training or special event needs of different organizations. These happyshops are now being proposed to the following organizations:

Business Institutions / Schools / Government Institutions / Foundations / Village Associations / Civic Organizations /Advocacy Groups / Associations of Professionals / NGOs
